Inside Microsoft Research reports that PhD candidate Jonathan Mace and Professor Rodrigo Fonseca of Brown CS, collaborating with Microsoft Researchers Peter Bodik and Madan Musuvathi, have created a new server resource management framework, known as Retro. It identifies the cause of bottlenecks in cloud systems, then optimizes cloud resources to make cloud operations more cost-effective and reduce latency to the customer. They're presenting their work today at the 12th USENIX Symposium on Networked Systems Design and Implementation (NSDI 15) Their abstract is available here and the entire paper is available here.
