Brown CS PhD alum Charalampos Papamanthou, now Assistant Professor at University of Maryland, is back in the news. Recently recognized for work that was the tenth-most-cited security research for 2012 and the fourth-highest-ranking paper from 2009, he's just received an NSF CAREER Award. The award will support research ("Towards Practical Systems for Trustworthy Cloud Computing") to design new frameworks and protocols that can provide security, availability, and privacy to common classes of cloud applications, with the aim of improving performance for everyday users.
